How do concealment manifest in our daily lives? And how do they compare to similar behaviors in other species? These are the questions we are invited to reflect upon in Tuulia Penttilä’s upcoming exhibition, opening this August in Onomas Galleria360.

The exhibition explores the themes of hiding and concealment from the perspectives of humans and other species. We share the same habitats, needs, and characteristics; these parallels open up new perspectives on our connections. The allure of a hidden space—and, conversely, the curiosity to peek inside—manifests in many forms. The exhibition brings together objects and artworks behind or within which another, more private space is concealed. The exhibition comprises both brand-new and previously completed works, which are revealed in a new light through their thematic connection.

Tuulia Penttilä has worked as a freelance designer and fine cabinetmaker at Fiskars for 27 years. She operates in a multidisciplinary manner at the intersection of design and art. She has always been fascinated by the function of objects and their role as companions to humans. An exploratory approach to her work is characteristic of her. Her in-depth knowledge of materials, as well as her interest in forest ecology, is rooted in over 30 years of working with trees. Her works have been featured in numerous domestic and international exhibitions as well as in museums across Europe, Japan, and South Korea.
