Sari Hiltula & Ron Nordström
7.-2.8.2026, Mon-Sun 11 am-18 pm
Sari Hiltula is a Karjaa based artist. Her works take place in distorted worlds and question reality. Or are these worlds, after all, just as real as our everyday lives? Everything we see, hear, read, smell, and taste. Everything we feel. From which we dream and into which we wake.
At first glance, the works appear to be a strange chaos that is difficult to grasp. They defy logic and leave the pieces for the viewer to assemble. But once you’ve done that, look more closely and begin to decipher their meaning, you’ll notice the underlying statements in the works. A playful mischief, laced with humor, directed at almost everything. Irony and sarcasm hidden in the details.
In Hiltula’s works, one finds strong ties to the anarchy of Dadaism and Surrealism. But perhaps most of all to Pop Art and the criticism lurking beneath its surface regarding the blindness to seeing society as it truly is.
Ron Nordström is an artist from Fiskars and a longtime friend of Sari Hiltula. His work *White Rabbit* is part of the Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale.
In the work, a white rabbit disappears when it touches its reflection in the water. It references the book *Alice in Wonderland* and the Jefferson Airplane song “White Rabbit,” both of which leave the rabbit hole of the imagination unguarded.
“The idea was that the rabbit would reappear somewhere, somehow. When Sari showed me her works on Midsummer’s Eve, they lingered in my mind in a strange way. I hadn’t felt anything toward other people’s art in a long time. But there was something about these that really struck a chord. The next day, as I was driving home, it suddenly occurred to me: ‘Why don’t we do a joint exhibition, and the hare will appear somewhere in her work?’”
The joint exhibition opens at CUBE on July 8 and is open during ONOMA Shop’s hours, Mon–Sun from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.!
