Hanna Hyy exhibition “Maalauksia”
Hanna Hyy’s works are uncanny and intimate evocations of emotions, with
layers of paint transformed into translucent moments nearing nostalgia.
Hyy’s observational paintings offer a quietly radical exploration of
contemporary life—not through grand narratives, but through overlooked,
discarded objects that haunt the viewer with almost nauseous, delirious
homesickness. Working primarily in oil and watercolor on paper and MDF
board, Hyy distills the everyday into small, precise frames, where
taxidermy birds, flea market toys, and obsolete knick-knacks take on
roles that are at once symbolic and strangely autonomous.
Hyy graduated 2019 as a Master of Arts from Arts University Helsinki,
and her works have been on display resently in the Nuoret2023 in Art
Hall Helsinki and in Mänttä Art Festival 2023. Hyy lives and works in
Åminnefors Raasepori near Fiskars.
